What is Spartacus: House of Ashur season 1 all about?

The first season of Spartacus: House of Ashur takes place in a different time period, months after War of the Damned. In this story, Ashur lives, Rome helps him, and he becomes dominus of the school that used to be called Batiatus. The series shows how he tries to gain power while Romans and gladiators both don't trust him.

Power battles in the ludus and in Roman politics are at the heart of the season. Ashur tries to gain power by making allies, planning ahead, and using planned violence.

When he brings Achillia, a gladiator who changes the rules in Capua, tensions rise. The story shows how gladiators' allegiances change, how Roman leaders fight, and how hard it is for Ashur, a former slave who now lives in upper-class society, to get along.

The story is linked to the original series, but it also starts its own storyline.
