While episode 2 had focused on Linda’s interrogation and her subsequent escape (with Maxine playing a part in the same), the end of the episode showed Norma in action yet again. With Robert recovering in the Dellacorte house, Norma was seen at his bedside, holding a suspicious syringe in her hand. The scene had many believing that the mysterious older Dellacorte was planning something sinister yet again, especially given what Robert knew.

For context, Robert was among a select few who knew that Norma was Agnes, having figured it out through an investigation of his own. Thus, it may have seemed that Norma was likely looking to silence him, but Palm Royale season 2 episode 3 showcases otherwise. After a short flashback, the episode shows that Norma wasn’t trying to kill Robert but was only trying to give him his medication to help him recover.

With Robert still recovering but not quite out of danger after being shot in the season 1 finale, Palm Royale season 2 episode 3 kicked off with his fate in Norma’s hands. Previously, episode 2 had ended with her holding a syringe while sitting on Robert’s bed with a sinister air around her.

However, episode 3 showed that the syringe contained nothing nefarious and that Norma was simply giving the recovering Robert his medicine. But as Palm Royale season 2 episode 3 rolled on, the focus remained on Norma and, more importantly, Maxine, as the latter uncovered more than she expected about the older Dellacorte.

Maxine now believes Norma is a serial killer, or is, at the very least, getting someone to kill people for her so that she can get access to a generation-skipping trust fund. But by the end of the episode, she finds a trophy room where Norma has hidden various trinkets.

These trinkets include Axel’s cufflinks, which points towards Norma having killed him, as she was the last person seen with a living Axel before he was found dead. However, instead of calling the authorities, Maxine attempts to confront Norma. She calls her FBI contacts, and at the same moment, Norma pulls out a gun and shoots at a chandelier, screaming, "Don’t kill me, Maxine."

The FBI, on the other end of the phone, hears this and now believes Maxine is the threat, while Norma manages to escape through a trap door.

Palm Royale season 2 episode 3 kicked off with a flashback as Norma threatened Robert regarding opening up about her past and the fact that she was actually Agnes and not Norma. The flashback shows a young Norma and Agnes in the same nunnery, training to become nuns. In the flashback, Norma finds out that her father has died, making her the sole heir to the Dellacorte fortune.

She then tells Agnes that she plans to leave the school immediately to claim her inheritance and live the fancy, affluent life that she’d always dreamed of. That’s when Mother Superior/Sister Bernadette enters the room, and Agnes confesses to her envy of Norma’s future.

It's at this time during the flashback in Palm Royale season 2 episode 3 that the Mother Superior plants a dangerous idea in Agnes's mind by telling her that nobody in America knew what Norma looked like. This seems to inspire Agnes, as when Norma returns to pack her things, she and her best friend argue at the top of a stone staircase, which turns into a struggle.

The struggle escalates from bad to worse as Agnes shoves Norma down the staircase, with the latter hitting her head on the stone and dying instantly. Only the Mother Superior/Sister Bernadette witnesses the crime, and she then proceeds to help Agnes take over Norma’s identity, insisting on it being ‘God’s plan’ in Palm Royale season 2 episode 3.
