The episode opens in typical Palm Royale fashion with a musical number, although it’s quickly revealed that it’s only Maxine’s imagination while being drugged. She’s been institutionalized after her breakdown following Robert’s shooting but soon begins clawing her way back up the social ladder while continuing her feud with Norma.

However, the episode ends on yet another cliffhanger as Dinah discovers Axel Rosenhips dead in his wheelchair. His cufflinks are missing, and his death appears suspicious, particularly as Norma was the last person seen visiting him. Dinah screams for help as everyone rushes to help her except Norma, who watches on with a complete lack of surprise.

With Robert still in a coma, most of Palm Royale season 2 episode 1 focuses on Norma’s attempts to frame Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons and keep her locked up in Sunny Tides. She also makes frequent visits to Robert to ensure that he remains comatose, as he is the only one who knows she is not Norma but Agnes, who has stolen Norma’s identity.

But as Palm Royale season 2 episode 1 rolled on, the focus remained on Norma, although subplots emerged. A key among them was Dinah Donohue’s upcoming wedding to Axel Rosenhips, although it turned out that Dinah no longer wanted to marry Axel. She told Maxine that when she went to visit her at Sunny Tides, she was still in love with Perry.

So during Norma’s party to announce Mitzi as a part of the Dellacorte family, Dinah wheels Axel to another room before going to talk to Perry. She tells Perry that she was planning on breaking up with Axel and that they could find another way to get their wealth back.

Meanwhile, Norma/Agnes walked into the room where Axel was sitting and sat down with him, as she told him that they have a lot to talk about. Neither is seen again until Dinah walks back into the room, and she proceeds to tell Axel that she wants to break up with him for love. However, when he doesn’t respond, she walks over to check on him and discovers that he’s dead.

Not only that, but she realizes that the cufflinks she gave him are missing, making his death rather suspicious. Furthermore, in the Palm Royale season 2 episode 1 ending, the camera focuses on Norma as Dinah screams for help, and her complete lack of surprise adds another layer of intrigue.

Palm Royale season 2 episode 1 kicked off with a musical number as Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons danced and sang while Robert did the same. However, it soon became clear that this was only happening inside Maxine’s head while she was being drugged at the Sunny Tides mental institution.

She had been placed on a three-day hold after her public breakdown following Robert being shot during her party in the season 1 finale. But while she was in the institution, Norma began her plan to remove Maxine from the Dellacorte family by replacing her with Mitzi, the woman Douglas had an affair with and got pregnant.

Not only that, but Norma attempts to frame Maxine for Robert’s shooting by trying to get Linda to point the finger at her, only for the latter to throw her out of the room. Yet when her three-day hold at Sunny Tides is over, Douglas doesn’t show up to pick her up, as Pinky reminds him that he owes them a lot of money.

So instead of picking up his wife, he lets Norma go through with setting up Mitzi as his new wife, especially after she tells him that their child will inherit a lot of money, making everyone rich again. It leaves Maxine alone in the institution, but with some help, she gets Evelyn to break her out and leaves Sunny Tide to restart her ascent up the social ladder.

And as if that’s not enough, Robert wakes up at the end of the episode from his coma, saying the name Agnes as the episode comes to a close.
