HBO has officially confirmed that Lanterns season 1 will be released in mid-2026, following the release of the series's first official teaser on December 14, 2025. The show was first announced in 2019 and was originally being developed as a Green Lantern television series, but was redeveloped after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in 2022. It was then announced in January 2023. Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, the series is set to premiere on HBO upon its release.

The show will also consist of eight episodes, according to The Wrap.

The trailer for Lanterns season 1 focuses on Hal Jordan training John Stewart as he leaps out of a car, sending the latter flying right off the edge of a cliff. It forces Stewart to pick up a Green Lantern ring and use it to stop himself from dying as Hal watches on from the dirt road.

Beyond that, the teaser also showcases a town-hall meeting-esque scene and a glimpse into something Hal and John are investigating.

That lives up to the creators' promise that the series’s style was inspired by True Detective and Slow Horses, as both series follow a detective story style, as per a report by Variety.
