Landman season 2 episode 1 opens with a big rant from Tommy Norris about capitalism and more. But by the end, the focus shifts towards his son, Cooper. His dream is to own an oil drilling business, and in season 2, he builds his own operation. Things are yet to strike gold for the young Norris, but that soon changes as Cooper watches his crew drill into a parcel of land.
While it seems like Cooper’s gamble isn't going to pay off, his assistant Marty tells him to wait for the pressure valve to "sing," a sign that they’ve hit a layer of oil. And by the end of Landman season 2 episode 1, the pressure valve begins to twitch, as Cooper informs Marty.
Marty tells him that they have struck oil and will get around 6200 units from that spot. Cooper rushes to share the news with Ariana (and her son), even bringing the two of them to the rig so Marty can confirm the good news in Landman season 2 episode 1. Cooper adds that those units will now net them $10 million a year, making them extremely wealthy.
Cooper Norris strikes gold, but Ariana seems worried about something in Landman season 2 episode 1

After revealing in season 1 that he plans on starting his own company someday, Cooper Norris finally makes good on that in the latest installment. Landman season 2 episode 1 opens with Cooper leaving Ariana and her son to head to the drilling rig. Hoping he's finally struck the right patch, he keeps himself occupied as his crew drills into the parcel.
The worry is clear, especially after Cooper’s assistant Marty reveals that when the pressure valve starts “singing,” they’ve hit oil. However, after hours of no singing, Cooper and his crew finally see the valve twitching, and he calls Marty over to check it.
Marty confirms what Cooper suspects, that he has struck oil, and reveals to the excited and ecstatic younger Norris that they’ll get around 6200 units of oil from the spot. It essentially means that they have struck gold, and after confirming things, Cooper rushes to bring Ariana to the site.
In Landman season 2 episode 1, he realises that the gravity of the situation hasn’t quite hit her yet. Therefore, he tells her that they’ll make around $10 million a year, which will be about $880,000 a month or $29,000 a day from the parcel.
While it stuns her, Ariana’s expression is more of a worried look as she remains sceptical about the future despite their newfound wealth.

Tommy and Cami have a tough road ahead with M-Tex after Monty’s death
The season 1 finale of Landman saw Monty Miller die. It left Tommy Norris in charge of M-Tex, with Monty’s wife, Cami, on the board and among those overseeing the company. She is also a majority stakeholder, which makes their new power dynamic rather tense.
This is especially true since Tommy seems the least bit interested in acting like a man in charge of the company. Meanwhile, Cami is still coming to terms with losing her husband, and she is also learning how to run an oil company almost from scratch.
To make matters worse, Monty’s decision to put Tommy and Cami in charge, particularly the latter, raises many questions about whether the two will lead M-Tex into bankruptcy. However, by the end of Landman season 2 episode 1, Cami ensures that M-Tex survives another day by addressing the company’s debtors at a luncheon.
She assures them that she will work just as her late husband did, but will be even more meaner than he was. She knocks off more than a few smiles across the room as she steps off the stage and walks away after her fiery speech. It leaves the fate of the company uncertain, although Cami finally seems ready to take the stage and run the company her late husband built from the ground up.
