Plot and synopsis explored

Murder Before Evensong follows the story of rector Canon Daniel Clement, who lives at the Champton rectory with his widowed and difficult mother, Audrey, whose stubbornness often makes life difficult for Daniel. He also has two pet dachshunds, Cosmo and Hilda, who live with him at the rectory.

One day, when Daniel announces his plan to install a lavatory in the church, he finds himself faced with opposition. The parish becomes suddenly divided, and long-buried secrets come to threaten to come to life again and destroy the calm of the peaceful village.

Moreover, the matter gets even more complicated when a body is found at the back of the church. The dead body is that of Daniel’s parishioner, Anthony Bowness, who was the cousin of Lord de Floures, and was researching Champton’s history during the war.

Anthony is found stabbed in the neck with a pair of secateurs. As the police get involved, matters become more challenging, and Daniel decides to take up the investigation himself to catch the killer, while also trying to keep the peace in the village.
