However, Sharon had her attention captured by the blackmail note left in Vince’s guitar case, and she soon cracked the case. Her investigation into the note led back to her mother, Ruby, and the fact that Vince was skimming money. Sharon believed that the money was intended for Walter’s care, but was actually being paid to Ruby.

However, once Walter came over to cook her lunch, in Fire Country season 4 episode 6, the two sat down and had a heart-to-heart conversation, during which he revealed everything.

It all started after Riley's death. Sharon and Ruby’s relationship was never great, but it only worsened after she died. Thus, Vince worried that his wife’s recovery would stall if Ruby remained in her life. Walter revealed that Vince had been paying Ruby to stay away from Sharon, to keep her safe.

Fire Country season 4 episode 6 kicked off with a focus on the ATF investigation into the Zabel Ridge Fire, with Station 42 helping out. However, the episode soon turned towards Vince and Sharon Leone.

The first five episodes revealed that Vince had kept one secret from Sharon throughout their relationship, with Eve and Jake believing it was an affair. However, once Bode showed Sharon the note Vince had kept hidden, she immediately recognised the handwriting as her mother’s.

In Fire Country season 4 episode 6, Sharon dug further into the note and its contents, even going through their finances. She discovered that Vince had been taking more money than necessary for Walter’s care and sending that extra amount to Ruby, Sharon’s mother. She had no idea why, but when Walter arrived to cook her lunch, Sharon confronted him and finally got the answer.

Walter, in Fire Country season 4 episode 6, revealed that Vince was paying Ruby to stay away from Sharon after their child, Riley, died, and especially after Sharon got into a motorcycle accident following the death. Vince believed that Sharon had tried to end her life in the accident and believed it was because of what Ruby said to her after Riley passed.

Thus, to keep his wife safe, Vince paid Ruby to stay away so that she wouldn’t cause Sharon any more unnecessary harm. But now, with Vince having passed away, Sharon left her mother a voicemail telling her that the payments would not be coming anymore because Vince was dead and she wanted her mother to keep her distance.

However, Ruby took the message to mean that she needed to show up. One week after the call, Ruby turned up at Sharon’s doorstep, much to the latter's chagrin, in Fire Country season 4 episode 6.

Bode’s recklessness nearly leads to him going back to prison yet again in Fire Country season 4 episode 6

Ever since the premiere of Fire Country season 1, Bode Leone’s recklessness has consistently landed him in trouble and jail. Though he sometimes meant well, his actions constantly put himself and others on the wrong side of the law. That was mainly due to his sense of vigilante justice, which he often acted on since becoming a firefighter.

But ever since learning that a potential arsonist could have set the Zabel Ridge Fire, Bode kept calm and refrained from making any reckless moves. That was until, during a search for evidence, the Station 42 crew found a lighter in the Fire Country season 4 episode 6. It meant the arsonist was somehow tied to Smokey’s, his parents’ bar and restaurant.

Bode was unhappy with the way ATF Special Agent Ruffin had handled the situation after he provided her with the information. Thus, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He conducted his own investigation and discovered that the events led to Jeff Branick, a former Smokey’s employee with a problematic history, in Fire Country season 4 episode 6.

He then confronted Ruffin at Smokey’s, told her about Branick, but she brushed him off, telling him to send any information to the tip line. That angered Bode, and he threatened to take matters into his own hands, which he did by stealing a truck from the station and going to confront Branick. Manny realized what Bode had done and chased after him, hoping that his words somehow got through to him.

By the time Manny reached Branick’s house and the stolen truck in Fire Country season 4 episode 6, he believed he was too late to stop Bode. However, the younger Leone then stepped out from the stolen truck and told Manny that his voice had stopped him. The ATF arrived soon and executed a warrant on Branick’s house, showing how close Bode came to breaking his parole.

In the end, however, it turned out that Branick had an alibi for the fire and couldn’t have been a suspect. This left the case wide open at the end of the episode.
