There was complete pandemonium at the end of Stranger Things 5 episode 4 as the rescue mission to save Vecna's next young targets failed. While some kids were with Mike, Will, and Joyce at the military zone, a few were on the run with Lucas in the tunnels. Robin and Murray had also taken three of the kids with them on the truck. The Demogorgons reached all three locations, wreaking havoc to take the children away.

While they succeed in doing so, Vecna returns to Hawkins and shares his dark plans with Will. As he leaves, the demogorgons head to attack Mike, Robin, and Lucas. Will gets the hint of the upcoming danger and realizes his innate powers at that moment. Recalling Robin's advice and his precious memories from the past, he channels new powers, similar to those of Vecna, and kills the Demogorgons before they take his friends.
