Perez Hilton has commented on a disturbing federal indictment out of Texas that has drawn widespread attention. According to reports, two young men were accused of plotting to seize control of Gonâve, an island off the coast of Haiti, and allegedly carry out mass murder and sexual violence.

The case, described by Perez Hilton as “one of the most insane stories,” involves 21-year-old Gavin Rivers Weisenburg and 20-year-old Tanner Christopher Thomas, who prosecutors say spent nearly a year developing plans to invade the island, kill all male residents, and enslave women and children.

According to federal filings cited by CBS News on November 23, 2025, and multiple details highlighted by Perez Hilton’s reporting, the pair allegedly recruited others, researched weapons and logistics, and sought training they believed would help them execute the plan.

Both are also charged with producing child pornography in a separate August 2024 incident. The allegations remain unproven as the men, through their attorneys, deny wrongdoing.

Perez Hilton calls it “One of the most insane stories.”

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, as reported by CBS News on November 23, 2025, Weisenburg and Thomas were indicted on charges of "conspiracy to murder, maim, or kidnap in a foreign country and production of child pornography," as per a press release from the Justice Department.

Prosecutors allege that between August 2024 and July 2025, the men developed a plan to assemble an illegal “mercenary force” and invade the Island of Gonâve, home to roughly 87,000 residents. Court documents cited by CBS News state the alleged motive was not political or ideological, but instead linked to violent fantasies.

Perez Hilton’s blog, summarizing details from NPR and Fox 4 News, described the accusations as including research, reconnaissance, and attempts to recruit unhoused people from Washington, D.C., to join what prosecutors say would have been an armed coup.

The indictment cited by NPR states that the goal was “to take military control of the Island of Gonâve by murdering all the men on the island and capturing all the women.” Investigators say Weisenburg sought fire academy and sailing training before dropping out due to cost, while Thomas enlisted in the Air Force, allegedly to gain military skills and relocate closer to D.C. to begin recruitment.

David Finn, representing Weisenburg, told Fox 4 News, as quoted in Perez Hilton’s reporting, that people should “hold their horses,” adding that “an indictment is simply an allegation.” In comments to NPR, Finn said that while there is “some limited factual basis” to aspects of the government’s press release, the account may be “wildly misleading.”

Perez Hilton also reported that Thomas’s attorney, John Helms, also challenged the prosecution’s assertions, telling the Record-Chronicle he looked forward to reviewing evidence and would “vigorously defend” his client.

Federal officials have not released additional details beyond the indictment cited by CBS News. The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that both men allegedly intended to uproot their lives to advance the plot, and preparations continued until mid-2025, when the investigation intervened.

The case remains ongoing, and the men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. If convicted on the conspiracy charge alone, they could face life in prison.
