Conservative podcaster Megyn Kelly blasted Jimmy Kimmel's wife, Molly McNearney, for bashing President Trump in her latest speech. McNearney was a keynote speaker at the recently held The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment 2025 breakfast gala. During the December 3 event, Molly McNearney was addressing the audience on the issue of "freedom of speech."
In her address, she highlighted the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's show that took place after he made an allegedly controversial statement about Charlie Kirk. McNearney saw the suspension as an attack on free speech. She went on to compare free speech with menstrual period.
"I naively assumed it [freedom of speech] was a guarantee in this country until September 16th, 2025. It's something that I took for granted. It's something I thought I'd always have, like my period. Did you guys know that those just stop? ... Anyway, your period stops, you guys. It stops. And it turns out that some freedoms in this country can too," McNearney said.
Megyn Kelly discussed McNearney's speech in the December 8 episode of her podcast. Kelly was joined by novelist Walter Kirn, who referred to Jimmy Kimmel's wife as a "propagandist." He slammed her for linking "free speech" to women's issues like menstruation. Kelly weighed in and said:
"She's in front of women. So, we have to talk about bleeding out of our wherever because that's what defines us. Okay, we got it. Didn't President Trump take a whole lot of for making that point? Only you get honored if you say it as a leftist. If it's all about your period and you're on the left, it's great. You get an award at the Entertainment for Women."
For the unversed, Megyn Kelly pointed out the 2015 incident when Donald Trump seemingly made a comment about periods during his debate with Kelly. As per a BBC report, the incident stirred a movement on social media, with many women slamming the POTUS.
Megyn Kelly continues her criticism of Jimmy Kimmel's wife
In the episode, Megyn Kelly went after Kimmel's wife and said she had "done nothing" other than writing for Kimmel. She slammed Molly McNearney for blaming President Trump rather than attributing the show’s suspension to her husband’s "inane comments." Taking a swipe at the short suspension, Megyn Kelly said:
"Trying to lecture on how Jimmy Kimmel truly is like Nelson Mandela because he had six nights off, two were over the weekend, and he got paid millions of dollars for it and became some sort of cultural free speech icon as a result of him saying MAGA killed Charlie. False information."
Megyn Kelly suggested that Kimmel's wife was "enjoying playing the role of victim." Further in her speech, Molly McNearney said that many women outside needed to use "hard-won freedom of speech."
"There is a woman burying her boy shot for being Black. She needs our voice. There is a woman being called Piggy by our President... My husband, my workplace, my livelihood, and my friends have been threatened multiple times by the President of the United States," McNearney stated.
Kelly fired back at Kimmel's wife, saying, "Look back at your husband's disgusting offensive history." She pointed out Jimmy Kimmel's old Blackface sketch in which he imitated Oprah Winfrey.
Earlier, when Jimmy Kimmel's show was suspended in September, Megyn Kelly called it "good riddance."
