“Zac Efron‘s early High School Musical vocals have fans soarin’ and flyin’ with opinions! LOLz!…Wow… Not what we expected! Ha!” he said.

In his website article, Perez Hilton then explained that the clip circulating online allegedly included Zac’s original demo recording for the 2005 Disney film.

He emphasized that long-time fans were already aware that Efron did not perform Troy Bolton’s final vocals in the movie. Instead, Canadian actor and singer Drew Seeley recorded the polished, final version heard in the film, which Hilton described as the “flawless” vocals shaped during post-production.

He then outlined that the resurfaced demo allowed fans to hear what was “supposedly Zac’s voice, not Drew’s,” particularly for the song Get’cha Head In The Game.

Hilton then referenced what the original account said when it first posted the demo.

“20 years after the release, we can finally hear his voice. With the date from June 2005, the song has some different adlibs and the instrumental was still under production,” the original post caption read.

However, Hilton pointed out that the original uploader eventually deleted the clip. He attributed the removal to the backlash the video received, summarizing it as the result of “harsh fan reactions” to the alleged vocals.

On October 13, another X (formerly Twitter) account reposted the same clip, giving the viral moment renewed visibility.

Toward the end of his article, Perez Hilton directly addressed the criticism surrounding Zac Efron’s supposed early vocals.

He acknowledged that some fans felt the demo showed how far the actor has come vocally since then.

“They have a point! If these really ARE his early vocals, he came a long way. To this day, HSM fans are still rocking out to Scream from High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which truly showcases his vocal growth,” Perez Hilton said.

Disney’s 2006 film, High School Musical, was the beginning of a new era for Zac Efron, and according to Vanessa Hudgens, it also marked the start of a genuine and unexpectedly natural connection between the two young stars.

Speaking on Bart Johnson’s Get Your Head in the Game podcast episode dated October 1, Hudgens, who was now expecting her second child with husband Cole Tucker, opened up about her early dynamic with Zac Efron. She offered a rare insight into the moment their chemistry first sparked.

Hudgens recalled how, during the audition process, she was immediately paired with Efron at a group casting event. She explained that only four teens made it to the final callback, two boys and two girls, and that they were switched around to test different pairings.

She described the moment, saying it was an intimate, pivotal part of the audition.

“There was one other girl there for Gabriella, one other guy there for Troy. We swapped, mixed, and matched, and yeah, that was it…Coming from a musical theater background, that was and still is where my heart remains. So, I was very excited,” she explained.

But among the most personal details, she revealed the instant attraction she felt toward a young Zac Efron, describing how real their early connection felt even before cameras rolled.

“Of course, I was a child and paired with this boy, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, he’s so cute.’ The chemistry was so real,” she said

Hudgens admitted that the shy, adoring glances she gave Efron in the movie’s opening karaoke scene were not an act. She said those looks were “so real” because the innocence and sweetness of their early relationship blurred the line between fiction and reality.

Their natural closeness “really does help,” she explained, especially for young actors working in a tender, “sweet and innocent” storyline.

Of course, that real connection eventually extended beyond the screen. Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron began dating while filming the first High School Musical movie in 2005, becoming one of Disney’s most beloved off-screen couples until they split in 2010.
