Matt Walsh shared his reaction to Quentin Tarantino's ranking in the December 3 episode of his podcast. The political commentator said he liked the filmmaker as a movie critic and praised his knowledge. However, he disagreed with Tarantino's list of the best films.

"I like Tarantino films. I like him as a film critic also... But I have to say this list is a mess. I mean, this list is a bit of an atrocity. I don't know. I think Tarantino, maybe, was overthinking a bit here. That's my guess," Walsh stated.

The podcaster criticized Quentin Tarantino for placing Toy Story 3 in the number two spot. Walsh wondered if the filmmaker was "confused" or "having a stroke" while curating the list. He said the movie did "not belong on the list." Matt Walsh added that while Toy Story 3 was a good movie for kids, the movie did not achieve any "monumental artistic achievement."

Matt Walsh also questioned Tarantino's choice of keeping Mad Max: Fury Road in the eighth spot on his ranking. The media personality referred to the movie as "one of the most overrated films."

The conservative podcaster also shared his own list of the best movies of the century. In his December 3 X post, Matt Walsh wrote:

"Not sure about top 10 yet but the top 5 movies of the century must include (probably in this order): No Country For Old Men, Master and Commander, There Will Be Blood, Apocalypto. For the 5th spot, I'll accept Children of Men, Sicario, Whiplash, or The Assassination of Jesse James."

In the aforementioned episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Quentin Tarantino revealed what he considered the 10 best movies of this century. As per Variety, the award-winning writer's top picks were:

  1. Black Hawk Down
  2. Toy Story 3
  3. Lost in Translation
  4. Dunkirk
  5. There Will Be Blood
  6. Zodiac
  7. Unstoppable
  8. Mad Max: Fury Road
  9. Shaun of the Dead
  10. Midnight in Paris

In the interview, Tarantino also broke down why he picked those movies. While discussing Black Hawk Down, he said he found the movie “too intense” when he first watched it. He added that it "stopped working" for him. However, after watching the film a couple of times, the highly acclaimed director recognized it as a "masterwork."

"One of the things I love so much about it is […] this is the only movie that actually goes completely for an ‘Apocalypse Now’ sense of purpose and visual effect and feeling, and I think it achieves it... I watched it again recently, my heart was going through the entire runtime of the movie; it had me and never let me go, and I hadn’t seen it in a while. The feat of direction is beyond extraordinary," Quentin Tarantino said about the movie.
