Pop culture podcaster Perez Hilton reacted to Meghan Markle's green gown controversy. The trailer of the Duchess's upcoming Netflix special was released recently, in which she was seen wearing a green gown. Soon after, many people online began speculating that it was the same $1,695 dress Meghan Markle allegedly took from Variety’s 2022 photoshoot without permission.

Perez Hilton discussed the controversy in his November 26 blog. Hilton reported that "Green Gown-gate" began circulating on the internet after journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis stated in an interview that the Sussexes took a "lot of stuff" following a big photoshoot.

The recent speculation, which resurfaced after the release of Meghan Markle's upcoming special's trailer, intensified after a Page Six report. In its November 24 exclusive, the media outlet reported that a source claimed the Duchess allegedly took the emerald green gown "from the shoot without asking."

The publication reported that another source told them that it was a royal practice and the Duchess was "required to archive all her looks." However, the report added that another source said there was no such royal protocol.

However, Perez Hilton lashed out at the Duchess's critics and wrote:

"Look, we all know Meghan Markle has more than her fair share of haters, but THIS?!... We mean, this sounds like a bunch of nonsense, in the end. We really doubt Meghan would STEAL a dress — and then be bold enough to wear it for her Netflix show!"

Perez Hilton added that the Sussexes might be able to leave the set with the dress and that Markle must have reached some agreement with the designer. The podcaster added that this kind of arrangement happened all the time with celebrities.

Meghan Markle's representative responded to the reignited green gown scandal. Perez Hilton also quoted the response shared by the representative with E! News on Tuesday.

"The insinuation that any items were taken without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false, but also highly defamatory. Any items kept were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements." the rep told the outlet.
