Meghan McCain publicly criticized Candace Owens for her recent comments about Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative youth activist Charlie Kirk. The clash unfolded after Erika Kirk addressed conspiracy theories circulating online about her husband’s death, remarks that prompted Owens to respond harshly, triggering widespread backlash across conservative circles.

McCain explained that she found Owens’ attacks cruel and disproportionate, arguing that a grieving widow should not be subjected to public hostility. She emphasized that, in her view, Owens’ behavior crossed moral boundaries, especially given the sensitive circumstances surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death.

In a December 12, 2025, post on X, McCain wrote:

“What Candace Owens is putting Erika Kirk and the people at Turning Point through is nothing short of demonic.”

Erika Kirk issued a blunt plea this week as she confronted a wave of conspiracy theories, much of it coming from conservative commentator Candace Owens, surrounding the death of her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

For weeks, Erika has been pushing back against online speculation, and on Wednesday, November 10, she addressed the situation publicly during a town hall hosted by CBS Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss.

When asked what she wanted to say directly to Candace Owens, Erika offered a short, emotionally raw appeal. She explained that she had reached a point of exhaustion and wanted the attacks and conspiratorial narratives to end.

“Stop. That’s it. That’s all I have to say. Stop,” Erika told CBS Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss during the town hall (as per New York Post)

This is not the first time Kirk has weighed in on the relentless rumors circulating online.

On December 10, during her appearance on Fox News’ Outnumbered, she emphasized how, because of these false narratives surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death, and the rumours involving her TPUSA family, she had reached what she described as a “breaking point.”

On the other hand, after Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah State University, Owens amplified a series of conspiracy theories, insisting that Kirk was “betrayed,” that the federal government lied about the investigation, and even suggesting, without evidence, that Israel may have been involved.

On December 10, after Erika Kirk did her interview with Fox News, Owens argued on X that it was unreasonable for Erika Kirk to shield a “150 million dollar organization” from criticism simply because it was grieving.

She further compared the situation to her past criticism of Black Lives Matter, claiming the organization used similar tactics after George Floyd’s death.

“It is a positively ABSURD notion that you cannot critique a 150 million dollar organization because the CEO says they are like a family, and are grieving. It is the exact same emotional strategy deployed by BLM in the wake of George Floyd’s death, when I called out their shady financial dealings.I rejected it then and I wholly reject it now. Sorry,” she wrote

The following day, during her December 11 podcast episode, Owens directly addressed Erika Kirk, telling listeners that the widow’s town hall remarks had “missed the mark” for her.

She later posted a short video clip to Instagram summarizing her position. In that clip, shared to X by journalist Collin Rugg, Owens claimed that Erika had basically “gone off on conspiracy theorists.”

“You’re probably seeing the clips, but Erika has gone off on conspiracy theorists. Obviously, every journalist out there is emailing me because it’s about me; it’s indirect, but it’s also about me. And don’t worry, in case you think it’s not about me, she is going to name-check me on stage with Bari Weiss on Saturday,” Candace Owens said in the video.

After the death of Charlie Kirk, Erika took over as CEO and chair of the board of Turning Point USA.

Candace Owens is currently busy with her Candace podcast on YouTube, where she addresses several conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death.
