Both Piers Morgan and Zohran Mamdani are well-known Arsenal fans. Mamdani was elected as the new mayor of New York City earlier this month and will commence his job in January 2026. Meanwhile, Piers Morgan is a British journalist, known for his commentary on politics and football.

Mamdani appeared in an episode of The Adam Friedland Show, published on November 24. During the interview, the host showed him a message from Arsenal legend Ian Wright. The NYC mayor-elect shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) about himself reacting to Wright's comments and wrote in the caption:

Piers Morgan quoted this tweet and wrote:

"I may have been a bit hasty in my judgement about Mayor Mandani. Any man who weeps over Arsenal and loves @IanWright0 is OK with me. He’s clearly a proper Gooner."

The tweet comes especially during a good time for both in terms of football. Arsenal hammered their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, 4-1 in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, November 23.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is also known for a similar personality. He sent a video message to Mamdani, saying:

“Hi Zohran, how are you doing? Ian Wright here. I just want to say a massive, massive congratulations on what you’ve achieved. The real work, though, starts now. But, God willing, you can achieve everything that you have set out to achieve.”

The mayor-elect said to Wright:

"I love you"

Notably, Mamdani's football interest spreads to France as well. In 2012, he bought shares of the Spanish club Real Oviedo during the club's fundraising efforts.

After their meeting, Mamdani shared a post on X on Friday, writing:

"Working people have been left behind in New York. In the wealthiest city in the world, one in five can't afford $2.90 for the train or bus. As I told Trump today— it’s time to put those people right back at the heart of our politics."
