Former Nebraska Volleyball player Ally Batenhorst is once again in the news, but this time for a different reason. The beach volleyball player has been suspended after being accused of doping violations.
According to multiple media reports, Batenhorst has been provisionally suspended after she has been allegedly tested positive in a drug test. According to Batenhorst's agent Thomas P. McCarthy, Batenhorst was tested for a prescription medication taken after a match at the Elite 16 tournament held in Newport Beach last month. Batenhorst has decided to appeal against the decision.
McCarthy mentioned to Southern California News Group in his statement,
“Ally has a Dr. prescribed prescription/medication that both the FIVB and USA Volleyball were and are aware of prior to the FIVB drug test administered in Newport Beach. All the necessary paperwork has been filed and we expect the suspension to be lifted as soon as the review process is complete. Parties trying to expedite review process as all documentation has been filed.” [via Orange County Register]
Ally Batenhorst previously represented the Nebraska Volleyball team as an outside hitter from 2021 to 2024. She had teamed up with beach volleyball champion Sara Hughes for her future prospects in early 2025, after bidding farewell to the Omaha Supernovas.

Ally Batenhorst previously opened up about her transition to beach volleyball. After the pre-season game between the current Nebraska Volleyball team and the alumni, Batenhorst mentioned in an interview with the Hail Varsity channel,
"At first I was super super like my timing was super off and then I adjusted and figured it out and it was like riding a bike and figured it out. But definitely a transition. Beach is tough, and we've been training super hard, so I'm pretty sore, but it was good." (via Hail Varsity YouTube)
In another interview with the NBC, Batenhorst talked about her eventual transition to beach volleyball as she said,
"I would say it's like a completely different sport. You have to learn little things like wind and you're outside and it's only two of you, so little things like that are an adjustment for sure. But at the end of the day, it’s volleyball.”
Ally Batenhorst was approached by Sara Hughes for a partnership over an Instagram chat. Apart from sharing common interests in music and faith, the two players had also attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles for their higher studies.
