What will Eliud Kipchoge wear at the New York City Marathon? All about Nike's new groundbreaking innovation towards greatness

Eliud Kipchoge, one of the greatest marathoners the world has seen, will take the New York City Marathon track for the first time, the only World Major he hasn't yet run in his storied career. Ahead of the big day, Nike released that the Kenyan will sport its Radical AirFlow top, a material innovation to cater to greatness.

Kipchoge, the former world record holder and double Olympic champion in the Marathon, will run through the five boroughs of the city in the unique gear, which was first introduced in the summer of 2025's trail running season through ACG (All Conditions Gear). The Nike Radical AirFlow top was first worn by Caleb Olson, the All Conditions Racing department athlete, who recorded the second-fastest time in history at the 2025 Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run.

Nike’s mainstay wear tester for shoes and other products, Kipchoge, wore the top and provided extensive feedback, drawings, and annotations, ultimately finalizing it for his first appearance at the New York Marathon.

The Nike product experts flew to Kipchoge's training center in Kenya to hand him the Radical AirFlow top, in pursuit of making the project race-day ready. The marathoner was very pleased with the garment's cooling effect, but suggested that the brand could add side vents to accelerate ventilation.

The brand’s NXT Apparel team made adjustments to the hemline and improved the fit according to the marathoner’s measurements.

Eliud Kipchoge made his feelings known about the final product

Kipchoge received his final Nike Radical AirFlow top in August and tested it outside his usual training camp in Kenya to see how the material suited his needs. The 40-year-old noted that the garment magically turns sweat into a cooling agent and doesn’t cause any discomfort.

Kipchoge's exact message to the Chief Innovation Officer, Tony Bignell, read:

"I think the top is ready to go. ACG has a great future."

Kipchoge last competed at the Sydney Marathon in August, where he finished ninth. As he heads to New York, the Kenyan expressed his plans to run on new continents in the future, and assuredly answered that his next destination will be Antarctica.
