Aleksander Kilde sustained major injuries after his devastating crash at the Wengen downhill in January 2024. The Norwegian Alpine skier had to be airlifted for immediate medical attention. As Kilde was recovering from his injuries, he faced complications that resulted from an infection. He had to undergo surgery to treat the infection and, since then, has been slowly rehabilitating with the intention of returning to the slopes in the 2025-26 Alpine skiing season.

In his time away from the slopes, Aleksander Kilde often shared glimpses of his recovery sessions as well as training with fans on social media. He even began a countdown indicating his return to the slopes. However, a week ago, Aleksander Kilde surprised his fans with the decision to compete professionally earlier than expected. The Norwegian Alpine skier competed in Colorado and finished 24th overall while swiftly navigating through the twists and turns.

Kilde expressed that he decided to undergo the surgery without any delays on the advice of his doctors in the USA.

"It was a matter of life and death regarding sepsis. I thought the pain and discomfort were part of the process – but it turned out there was an infection in the shoulder, and it was spreading to the ligaments and bones. It started to get into the blood," he said.

The Norwegian skier thanked his family, fiancée Mikaela Shiffrin, and fans for their unwavering support during tough times.
