Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone appealed to fans as Jamaica dealt with the aftermath of the devastating hurricane that struck the coast. Hurricane Melissa was classified as a Category 5 hurricane and was reported to be the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide of 2025.
The reported death toll was above 40, with several people missing due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Mellisa. Moreover, it brought about a lot of loss to public infrastructure, which forced people to relocate to shelters and support centers.
As Jamaica navigated through the aftermath of the hurricane, several public figures stood up for the country by providing aid and helping people with essential items. Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Noah Lyles, Junelle Bromfield, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone were some of the athletes who urged fans to assist in their humanitarian efforts and help the people who were affected.
Recently, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce shared a glimpse of her efforts along with her team to provide humanitarian aid on her social media handle and shared a message for fans. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone made an appeal to fans by sharing the message on her Instagram story and wrote:
" If you feel led, you can help those recovering from Hurricane Melissa," she said.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce shares her thoughts on Hurricane Melissa

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce shared a heartfelt message for the people of Jamaica as she reflected on the devastating effects of the hurricane. The Jamaican athlete shared how the hurricane had brought about widespread destruction in the region, with people losing their homes as well as the rupture of public infrastructure.
Fraser-Pryce expressed that she has been distributing essential items to people in the hardest hit areas and thanked her team and everybody who played a pivotal role in creating a positive impact during tough times.
"Through the foundation, our team and partners have been distributing food, water, and care packages to students and families in the hardest-hit areas. I’m so grateful for everyone who has come together to make this possible from Zyon’s school community, Ballaz Football Academy, First World Dental, Carimed, Grace Foods, Sanmerna, Ziggydchemical and many more!" she wrote.
While the recovery to normality would take some time, Fraser-Pryce urged Jamaicans to be strong and stand together in unity.
"Recovery will take time, and it will take all of us. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll continue to visit communities to help them rebuild with dignity and hope," she added.
