Mikaela Shiffrin's fiancé, Aleksander Kilde, opened up about her impact on his comeback to skiing after almost two years. Kilde previously competed at the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen in January 2024, where he met a severe accident that led to grave injuries.

On the final run of the course in Wengen, the Norwegian skier crashed so hard that it led to serious injuries in his lower right leg and his left shoulder. Moreover, during the recovery process, he contracted sepsis (an infection in his shoulder), which forced him to undergo two surgeries in Austria, in August 2024 and February 2025. After spending 683 days in rehabilitation, Kilde announced that he would make his comeback at the downhill event in Beaver Creek, Colorado, on December 5, 2025.

However, being confident in his newly gained strength and trust in his recovery process, Kilde preponed his return and competed at the men's super-G race at Copper Mountain, in Colorado, USA, on Thursday, November 27, 2025. As he slid through the slope, his greatest supporter, fiancée, and American skier Mikaela Shiffrin, watched through the sidelines. Following his comeback race, Kilde opened up on his fiancée's support, stating she not only helped him grow as a person but also as an athlete.
