After the recent IOC ruling that might eventually prevent the participation of trans athletes in women's sports, Imane Khelif allegedly issued a veiled threat of legal action. Although there is no official confirmation from the Algerian boxer, this is not the first time Khelif has threatened to take action against anyone who addresses her as a man.

Riley Gaines responded to the claims by sharing her thoughts on her X post [formerly Twitter]. She wrote:

For the uninitiated, the International Olympic Committee has passed a ruling that will be implemented within six to twelve months. According to that, the trans athletes would be effectively banned from participating in women's sports, ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics scheduled in 2028.

Riley Gaines had previously made her stance clear on Khelif's identity as a female boxer. In a reply to a fellow social media user, the swimmer-turned-social activist, Gaines, mentioned that Imane Khelif is a man, and 'he' must be stripped of the Olympic gold medal alongside Lin Yu-Ting.

The controversy between Imane Khelif and Riley Gaines dates back to March 2023. Hours before the finals, Imane Khelif from Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting from Taiwan were disqualified due to the controversy over their gender identity.

A year later, when IBA was dissolved and the International Olympic Committee took over the administration of world boxing, the organizers of the Paris Olympics allowed Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting to participate in their respective categories, despite immense criticism on social media.

Riley Gaines had been campaigning against Imane Khelif's participation in the Paris Olympics alongside the likes of JK Rowling, Jake Paul, and even Donald Trump, who was then the Republican candidate for the Presidential elections.

Despite criticism, Imane Khelif not only participated in the Paris Olympics but also won the gold medal in the final of the women's welterweight category, defeating the then world champion, Yang Liu of China.

Riley Gaines also slammed the organizers of the Paris Olympics for their alleged double standards. The swimmer-turned-social activist made this statement after an old medical report was leaked in November 2024, which claimed that Imane Khelif allegedly possessed male chromosomes.
