Riley Gaines praised the district schools in Colorado after the amendments in the locker room, which aim to create safe spaces for biological women. The School District 49 and seven partner districts reached a settlement with the Colorado High School Activities Association in terms of safety policies for biological female students. The settlement allows Colorado school districts to organize sports teams and their access based on the biological sex of the athletes. It also provides legal protection to these eight Colorado school districts. The Colorado High School Activities Association cannot interfere in the policies set by these districts and does not have the authority to punish any school, team, or athlete for forfeiting a game due to the inclusion of transgender athletes. Refraining from participating in any game will only be recorded as a loss, with no launch of an investigation The settlement allows the districts to maintain separate sports teams, locker rooms, and overnight travel accommodations for boys and girls based on their biological sex. As the new amendments were announced, Gaines commended the Colorado school districts, referring to the settlement as a 'huge win.'"Eight districts in Colorado now regain the authority to classify school sports teams, locker rooms, & overnight accommodations by biological sex.""Huge win. Fantastic work," Gaines added. The settlement also allows the districts to follow the rules of Title IX. She added that allowing transgender athletes and biological women to compete together can lead to demotivation in the next generation of female athletes. “Title IX was written to protect women based on biological sex - not self-identified gender. To lose that foundational truth is to lose the heart of the law itself. Growth in sports is about more than medals - it’s about pushing ourselves mentally and physically, developing character, working hard, failing with grace, and winning with integrity.""Sports are the training ground for life. If we allow Title IX to be redefined, we risk losing not just championships - but the next generation of women leaders."Gaines also provided her support to SJSU athlete Brooke Slusser after the latter spoke about the distress she experienced after competing alongside transgender athlete.
