Swimmer-turned-social activist Riley Gaines recently issued a bold statement after the IOC ruling. There's nothing courageous about saying you're something that you're provably not."Gaines previously challenged Algerian boxer Imane Khelif over the controversy around the boxer's gender identity. The swimmer-turned-social activist had called for athletes like Khelif to be stripped of their Olympic gold medals. She further wrote in an X post, "He's a male. Sue me."Riley Gaines has been campaigning against the participation of trans athletes in women's sports since 2022. She also sued the NCAA, along with 15 other athletes, in early 2024 for their alleged bias towards trans athletes. There was a male, actually two males, who won gold medals in their respective weight categories in the women's division. Both of these athletes have been proven to be male by their medical records.
