In a pre-match press conference, the head coach discussed the team's preparations for the game. She also talked about how the team would like to end the season after having secured their third consecutive Big Ten title [also her first championship as the head coach].

When asked about the 'blackout' game, coach Kelly simply replied:

"Well, I think it'll be pretty great. I think it'll be like it always is but with everybody wearing black. So um, I do think, um, Penn State will be, you know, it's fun to have it in a big name. Um a match that people are going to be fired up, no matter what the opponent's record is or what our record is." [5:05 onwards]

The Penn State Nittany Lions had previously lost to Dani Busboom Kelly's Nebraska Cornhuskers when they last competed on October 3. The head coach of Nebraska Volleyball would like nothing better than another victory on a trot, especially when it's happening at the home ground, i.e., the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Dani Busboom Kelly previously talked about the hard fought victories earned by the Nebraska Volleyball team, and how she worked hard to maintain the fighting spirit within the team members. The head coach mentioned this initiative in one of her earlier media conferences at the beginning of November, as she said:

"It is really tough to win, no matter what level, what sport, and we never want to lose sight of that, and that's something that I have always been a firm believer in. I also am a firm believer that we spend a lot of our time together and a lot of our time with our sport, and if we can't enjoy and celebrate the little things and then we are going to drive ourselves crazy. That's when burnout comes in. When December comes in, you're relieved that the season's over, and I don't want our players to walk out of here feeling that they are relieved, I want them to feel like they can't wait to be back."

Dani Busboom Kelly had joined the Nebraska Cornhuskers in December 2024. She aims to end the long standing title drought for the Huskers after eight years.
