Lindsey Vonn shared her thoughts about her performance in the second World Cup race of her season at St. Moritz, Switzerland. The American won her first World Cup win in seven years in her 2025-26 skiing season opener.
After her World Cup win on December 12, Vonn competed in her next downhill race in St. Moritz on December 13. She just fell short by 0.24s in claiming the victory, clocking a combined time of 1:30.74. Germany's Emma Aicher nabbed the win by finishing the race in 1:30.50 seconds. Italy's Sofia Goggia claimed the third-place finish with a time of 1:30.79.
The 41-year-old sat for a conversation with TNT Sports after the match. Talking about the race, she expressed disappointment with her performance, stating that she was out of balance. Revealing how her first-place performance a day before this match took a lot of energy, she said:
"I'm not entirely happy. I think I skied pretty well, but I was a little bit out of balance today. I felt good on the top part of the course, but I think yesterday was so emotional. It took a lot of energy and I didn't sleep that great," Lindsey Vonn said.
In the interview, she also revealed that she fell on her hip in the middle of the course. This led to her being off track during the bottom part of the course.
Lindsey Vonn made her feelings known about winning her first World Cup race in seven years
On December 12, Lindsey Vonn turned heads at St. Moritz with her stellar World Cup win in the downhill race. She clinched the victory by clocking a time of 1:29.63 seconds and besting Magdalena Egger just by a matter of seconds. Mirjam Puchner ended up in third place.
The win marked Vonn's 83rd World Cup win of her career. She was seen breaking down into tears as she held the trophy while the national anthem played. Following this remarkable feat, she spoke to Ski Racing, where she made her feelings known about her triumph. Expressing her elation, she said:
“We worked really hard for this — not just me, but the whole team, from equipment to physical training. I knew I was skiing fast, but you never really know until the first race. I think I was a little faster than I expected. I had a great run, but I also made some mistakes, which actually makes me excited for tomorrow," said Lindsey Vonn.
She added:
"I focused on skiing the pitch clean and carrying speed to the bottom, and that worked. Now it’s about keeping the rhythm, managing energy, and executing the plan again. I’m really excited - especially for super-G, because I’m skiing even better there.”
Lindsey Vonn received several heartfelt wishes for her win from the tennis world. Prodigies, such as Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, and more, congratulated her for her win.
