Olivia Dunne reminisces over her gymnastics capabilities after retirement from LSU

Olivia Dunne looked back on her gymnastics abilities months after retiring from the sport. Dunne announced her retirement from gymnastics on April 21, 2025, through a video posted on social media.

Born to David and Katherine Dunne, the former LSU gymnast began her gymnastics journey at the age of three at ENA Training in Paramus. Dunne led a very disciplined life to make progress in her sporting career. At the age of 14, she was homeschooled by her mother. Dunne youngest athlete in the country to qualify as a Jr. International Elite.

She joined the LSU Gymnastics team in 2021 as a freshman and went on to compete for five years (including super senior year). In her senior year, she contributed to the team's efforts to win its first NCAA Championship title. Amid her retirement life, Dunne reminisced about her college days, when she could flawlessly perform a gymnastics routine.

She shared a video of her performing an impeccable floor routine in LSU's Gymnastics Training Center and expressed her disbelief in her previous abilities, writing:

"Watching videos of what my body was capable of a year ago like it's my dead wife."
"Like how tf did I do that," Dunne added in the caption.

Dunne's super senior year at LSU was marred by an injury (an avulsion fracture) that kept her away from the mat for a brief period.

Olivia Dunne once opened up about her plans after retiring from the competitive arena, stating that she wants to keep working in sports. She spoke about promoting women's sports and highlighted that, since she had to miss major opportunities due to strict training routines, she now wants to capitalize on all of them.

"I definitely would want to do something with sports and keep advocating for women's sports, especially since I'm fortunate to have this platform," Dunne said. "It's important to keep eyes on women's sports and keep the hype around gymnastics especially." (via usatoday.com)

She added:

"I can't pinpoint what I want to do, but I want to try everything. I want to try new opportunities. I just want to explore what my options are going to be and just do everything and have fun with it. I'll keep working with brands, and I'll keep being a sports fan and staying involved with sports."

After her retirement, Olivia Dunne also appeared on he runway for the SI Swimsuit event.
