Jakob Ingebrigtsen revealed his goal of breaking the world record in the upcoming season. The Norwegian athlete began the 2025 season with great momentum; however, he had to skip all of the outdoor races and compete at the world championships directly due to a prolonged Achilles injury.
The Olympic gold medalist managed to make a comeback at the World Championships in Tokyo and competed in the men's 1500m and the 5000m. He finished 10th in the 5000m finals and could not advance to the later stages in the 1500m. After concluding his season, Jakob Ingebrigtsen expressed his gratitude at being able to make a comeback and spoke to Norwegian news VG about his plans for the upcoming season.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen expressed that he had recovered from his injury and laid an incredible foundation for the upcoming season and targets to break the three world records, which include the 1500m, the mile, and the 5000m. Also, he said that achieving the goals within the 2026 season would make him happy about working extremely hard.
"This year, I laid a good foundation for an incredibly good comeback with a couple of world records next season. I hope to set the world record for 1,500 meters, mile, and 5,000 meters. If I can do that, I have to be satisfied. I have to look out for some events and dates where I can have the best chance of making some good attempts at it," he said. (translated to English)
Speaking about the track where Jakob Ingebrigtsen would want to attempt the world record, he said:
"Most of the tracks are good to run on, but all tracks can also have bad conditions. There will be a bit of a bingo, but it is generally a bit safer further south in Europe. Monaco has been a very good race for many years; Paris is good. Silesia is very good. Those are races I have my eye on. And most likely Bislett. That is always something I look forward to."
