Shiffrin had faced multiple challenges in the previous seasons, which included undergoing surgery after a major downhill crash and making a swift recovery to return to the circuit. Since the conclusion of the previous season, the American skier has been actively working on her strength to put forward a strong performance and be able to qualify for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Speaking about her performance in Gurgl, Austria, Mikaela Shiffrin expressed that she had to push herself to the limits to ensure her dominance alongside some incredible skiers. Moreover, pointing out the race conditions, Shiffrin said:

"I’m really excited to go to Copper. Finally, I stay in my own bed for the first time in the season. I had to push so hard, but it was really nice with the sun on the second run from last year. I remember it was really dark, so this was a really nice surprise, and it was in really great condition. I don't know, it felt totally different from the first; it was like handleable. It was good."

Furthermore, Shiffrin expressed her excitement for the rest of the slalom season.

"Pretty much exactly how I expected it to be, not easy, but I knew that the others were pushing, so there's no choice, you have to go. I'm excited for all the slalom skiing that's happening right now and what's possible for the future, so it's only amazing," she added.

Moreover, Shiffrin shared that Team USA has a lot of potential to win multiple medals at the Winter Olympics.

"One thing about the Games that I'm always really aware of, and especially this year, because we have an incredible (U.S.) team of athletes, multiple medal contenders. I don't want to be taking a spot that I don't earn and deserve to be there. So I'm fully OK letting go of that -- when the time comes -- if that is how it rolls," she said.
