Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson recently turned emotional as she recalled the relief efforts amidst the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which wreaked havoc in the Caribbean islands, including Jamaica. The cyclone made landfall on the Jamaican Island around October 28, damaging assets worth $6 billion, and causing a loss of around 96 people.Jackson, like most other Jamaican athletes, was heavily involved in the relief efforts. The 31-year-old sprinter shared some glimpses of her efforts on her Instagram profile.Jackson revealed how grateful she was to everyone who tried to help her in this campaign. In her words,"I’m still trying to find the right words, because last weekend reminded me what true community really looks like. After Hurricane Melissa swept through several parishes and left so many families hurting, my team and I made it our mission to show up in whatever way we could. But the truth is… none of it would’ve been possible without the person who stood with us." The Jamaican sprinter stood second overall in the Xiamen leg of the Wanda Diamond League, where she clocked 22.79 seconds in the women's 200m.The Jamaican sprinter fared well at most of the Diamond League meets. Though she didn't participate in the finals held at Zurich, Shericka Jackson won the Silesia leg by clocking 22.17 seconds in the women's 200m event. Shericka Jackson's experience at the World Championships was overall a mixed bag. The 31-year-old sprinter missed out on the podium finish by a whisker in the women's 100m, finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 10.88 seconds. However, the Jamaican sprinter recovered in time to clinch the bronze medal in women's 200m with a time of 22.18 seconds.
