Elaine Thompson-Herah announced her return to the track and shared that she has begun training for the upcoming season. The Jamaican athlete had been struggling with an injury for a long time, which led her to skip the Paris Olympics appearance.

The Olympic gold medalist's struggles with injury began in the 2023 season, which led her to finish fifth in the Jamaican national trials and miss the qualification for the World Athletics Championships in the women's 100m. Elaine Thompson-Herah was set to make an appearance in the early 2024 season; however, she opted out of multiple races and competed in her first event at the Prefontaine Classic, where she struggled and ultimately finished last.

This was followed by her appearance at the New York City Grand Prix, where she clocked 11.48s and limped off the track. Fans were concerned about the Jamaican athlete, and she announced that she would not be competing in the National trials, thereby ending her dream of defending her Olympic titles in the 100m and 200m.

Since then, Elaine Thompson-Herah has been absent from the track and has not made any appearances in the 2025 season. The Olympic gold medalist would often share updates about her life with fans on social media and recently expressed her desire to make a long-standing comeback to the track circuit. Thompson-Herah shared that she had resumed her training and hopes to make a return to the track in the 2026 season. She shared a strong message and wrote:

Elaine Thompson-Herah opened up about her injury at the New York Grand Prix in a detailed message on Instagram. The Jamaican athlete expressed that she had felt an issue early on in the race but decided to push herself and put her best foot forward.

However, as the pain was unbearable, Thompson-Herah could not apply any pressure to her leg and had to be carried off the track.

"It’s never fun sharing news like this. But at the New York Grand Prix, I felt something in the race and still insisted on pushing, a couple steps to the line I realize something is really wrong. I sat on the ground because I couldn’t apply any pressure to the leg whatsoever as I was carried off the track," she wrote.

After a medical examination, it was revealed that she had a small tear in her Achilles tendon that ultimately led her to opt out of the Jamaican trials leading up to the Paris Olympics.
