The Vancouver Canucks enter December with two very different storylines surrounding their forward group. On one side, NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed on the Sekeres and Price podcast that the trade market for veteran winger Evander Kane has been quiet. There is little indication that teams are actively pursuing the power forward, who is signed on a $20.5 million contract.

Pagnotta noted he would be a little bit surprised if anything materializes soon.

"I'd be a little bit surprised if anything were to happen," Pagnotta said. "Now I think if Kane is moved, it's probably close to the deadline. That's the one, like. I think there's a willingness for other teams to look at some of their other pieces and make moves. ... [But] If it does happen, I would anticipate that being something more realistic to occur closer to the March 6 deadline."

While Kane’s market remains stagnant, interest in Kiefer Sherwood is heating up considerably. As Rick Dhaliwal reported on Donnie and Dhali in late November, “lots of teams are interested in both [Connor] Garland and Sherwood,” with rivals taking notice of Sherwood’s blend of energy, scoring, and relentless physical play.

Sherwood, who set the NHL’s single-season hits record last year, has emerged as one of Vancouver’s most valuable pieces in an otherwise difficult season.

Sherwood has been a standout performer with 12 goals and 16 points through 28 games, thriving in a forechecking-heavy role. His production has been crucial as he leads the team in goals. His effort level and consistency have made him an attractive target for playoff-caliber teams seeking depth, scoring, and intensity on the wing.

Meanwhile, the Canucks themselves continue to struggle, sitting at 10-15-3 with the league’s highest goals-against average and a faltering penalty kill. With the deadline months away, the contrast is clear between Kane and Sherwood’s value.

Bruins are reportedly interested in Canucks' Kiefer Sherwood

Multiple teams across the league have shown growing interest in Kiefer Sherwood as the Vancouver Canucks face increasing pressure to make roster decisions. Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Boston Bruins are specifically searching for a scoring right-winger and see him as a potential fit.

"Boston's looking for a winger who can score," Dhaliwal said. "I wouldn't be surprised if they're in on Sherwood. The Canucks can't keep all their right-wingers. They got too many right-wingers, ... I did hear a couple of teams who, like Sherwood, are worried about his contract. Some teams may want to talk to his agent."

With Sherwood in the final year of his deal and playing the best hockey of his career, the market around him continues to intensify.
