The Ottawa Senators continue to explore ways to upgrade their roster. The Senators are off to a decent start with an 11-7-4 record this season. They are looking to build on last season's progress, in which they made it to the playoffs for the first time after a gap of several seasons. Now, recent reports suggest they are looking at both high-end talent and smaller depth options. During a recent segment of the Coming In Hot podcast, NHL insider David Pagnotta explained the type of players the Senators are targeting. He said Boone Jenner, who is 32, could be an option, but he fits more as a complementary piece."That's not the big game hunting type of player that they would ideally perfect world, like to add," Pagnotta said. "He's a complimentary piece for a cup contender with his cap hit, plus what he brings to the table, a guy who's not afraid to be physical or provide a little jam."There are contenders that would love to get their hands on this guy later if Columbus decides they're going to move him."Pagnotta added that Ottawa is instead looking at younger top-six players with term. Nashville and St. Louis were mentioned as possible trade partners. Jordan Kyrou’s name came up as one player who matches Ottawa’s goals. The insider said Kyrou may consider waiving his no-trade clause for the right situation."Kyrou is a nice name and a player that, yes, he has a full no-trade, I think he's willing to consider a multitude of options in terms of waiving it," Pagnotta said. "... I know Ottawa at some point, poked around. A few other teams did, but that's the kind of player that I think the Sens want to pounce on if they can: young, controllable, fits within a top six, and changes scenery, even though he's doing decently, would do him justice."I think if you're going after a big fish, presumably they're going to be making a lot of money, and you're going to have to move some bodies out, at least one in order to help offset some of the dollars."Kyrou is signed on an eight-year, $65 million contract with the Blues. He is making $8.125 million per season on average until 2031.Jordan Kyrou's performance and fit with the SenatorsJordan Kyrou has 13 points in 22 games this season and holds a -10 rating. His production is below his past numbers, but he still plays around 17 minutes per game. He remains an important part of the Blues' offense.Kyrou’s best season came in 2021–22 when he posted 75 points in 74 games. Over his career, he has 345 points in 438 games. A change of scenery could help him regain consistency. He could fit well in a top-six role for Ottawa if available.Meanwhile, Ottawa's offense has been strong with 3.14 goals per game. Their defense has been less stable, but the team remains competitive and is looking for moves that support long-term growth. So, the Senators will continue to watch the market as they search for the right fit.
