Rumors around Mason Marchment picked up this week linking him back to the Dallas Stars. Marchment is in the last year of a four-year, $18 million contract. His cap hit is 4.5 million dollars per season, and he has 11 points in 23 games this year. He continues to play a physical middle-six role.Speaking on Daily Faceoff’s The Sheet, NHL insiders Jason Gregor and Jeff Marek discussed Dallas' potential interest in reuniting with Marchment. Gregor said he would not be surprised if the Stars try to bring Marchment back if the Seattle Kraken fall out of the playoff race. "I'm not going to be shocked if Dallas tries to find a way to bring Mason Marchment back if Seattle's out of the playoff race, like a lot of teams," Gregor said. "He's a pest man, and he's got some skill, and he's physical, and he'll show up in the playoffs. "That's a guy I was just watching, like, 'Man, Dallas, I know had to move him for salary cap reasons, but if you can get him at 50% now, all of a sudden, he's a $2 million player for you—some really good value - for a lot of teams, not just Dallas."Marek agreed and said Marchment fits the type of player Dallas general manager Jim Nill has targeted in recent years. He mentioned that Nill has looked for a tough, reliable forward who can kill penalties and handle regular minutes.Marek said Marchment’s style matches what Dallas has been missing in certain depth roles."He's been looking for, for that style of player with the Dallas Stars," Marek said. "So it wouldn't surprise me if they try to bring Marchment back, or someone like Marchment."Both insiders view this as a realistic option for a strong playoff team.Kraken's season and Dallas Stars' possibility to land MarchmentRight now, the Seattle Kraken sits at 11-7-6 and remains competitive but struggles with scoring and special teams. If their season stalls, they could consider moves to free cap space or add future assets in order to retool their lineup for next season.Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars sit near the top of the Western Conference at 17-5-4. The Stars are balanced and productive, but still value strong depth forwards for the postseason. A reunion with Marchment could help fill that need. For now, the situation depends on Seattle’s direction. Many teams will watch closely as the season develops.
