NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provided an update on Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes’ trade status after the team reportedly made veteran players available.Friedman reported that the Canucks have quietly informed other teams they’re open to offers for their veteran players as part of a strategy to get younger and more dynamic. This could include impending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) or even a few with terms left on their deals, but Friedman said the club has no intention of tearing it right down to the studs. In his latest column for Sportsnet, Friedman reported that Hughes is the player who is not on the Canucks’ trading priority list. “They’ve made it clear (trading him) is not their priority right now,” he quoted an executive as saying.Friedman added that Filip Hronek is another player teams feel is unlikely to go anywhere.Quinn Hughes is currently signed to a six-year, $47.1 million contract with the Canucks. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the end of the 2026-27 season.Hughes has notched 21 points through two goals and 19 assists this season.Canucks HC Adam Foote claps back at analystsVancouver Canucks head coach Adam Foote pushed back against questions about his team’s ongoing defensive struggles during his media availability on Monday. He expressed full confidence in the club’s process while taking a jab at analytics:"I'm more happy with wins and but I'm not gonna blow up a kid or something being overanalyzed. By no disrespect, people that really don't know, but they're just looking at numbers from people that could be in Russia, in a basement, having cigarettes, cashews, telling there's scoring chances," Foote said. The Canucks, meanwhile, hope to end their three-game skid when they face the Anaheim Ducks in their next matchup at Honda Center on Wednesday.
