WATCH: Nazem Kadri and K’Andre Miller exchange knuckles in heated confrontation near bench

Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri and Carolina Hurricanes defenseman K’Andre Miller got into a heated exchange on Sunday night at the PNC Arena.

During the third period, Kadri and Miller got tangled up in front of the Hurricanes' bench after Miller drilled Kadri. The Flames veteran took exception to the hit, leading to the altercation between the two warriors.

The replay showed Nazem Kadri entering the Carolina zone. At that point, K’Andre Miller cut him off, pounding Kadri into the Canes’ bench. The two exchanged words before going at one another.

While the gloves didn’t come off, the wrestling match led to the two players hitting the penalty box. Nazem Kadri and K’Andre Miller both got two minutes for roughing at the four-minute mark of the third.

If the pugilists had dropped the gloves, they would have gotten major penalties for fighting. However, the gloves stayed on. That’s only minor penalties were assessed.

K’Andre Miller and the Hurricanes got the best of Nazem Kadri and the Flames

On the ice, K’Andre Miller and the Carolina Hurricanes won a hard-fought, tight-checking game. The Canes pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory over Nazem Kadri and the Calgary Flames. The game was a tough defensive matchup, with the Canes getting a 17-15 edge in the shots.

The game ended at the 2:52 mark of the extra period when Nikolaj Ehlers scored his fifth of the season.

Ehlers beat Devin Cooley on a nifty cross-ice feed from Taylor Hall. Cooley managed to get a piece of the puck, but it still trickled past him for the goal.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s tilt was a showdown between backup goalies. Cooley made 16 saves for the Flames, while Brandon Bussi got the clean sheet for the Hurricanes. Bussi made 15 saves on the night, including a great one on Matt Coronato:

As for Nazem Kadri, he ended the night playing over 18 minutes across 21 shifts. He notched two shots on goal. Meanwhile, K’Andre Miller logged over 23 minutes on the night on 29 shifts. Miller is part of the workhorse top-four pairing for the Hurricanes this season.

The two clubs will meet once again on March 7 for their second and final meeting of the season. Perhaps Miller and Kadri will be eager to renew hostilities then.
