New Jersey Devils defenseman Brenden Dillon’s 1,000th NHL game turned ugly after an altercation with Columbus Blue Jackets forward Dmitri Voronkov during Monday’s 5-3 loss at Prudential Center.The incident unfolded just one minute into the second period after Dillon accepted Voronkov’s invitation to drop the gloves in a scrum near the Devils’ net.However, Dillon never gained the upper hand in the fight as Voronkov landed a solid right punch to the face, sending him crashing face-first to the ice. The Blue Jackets improved their record to 12-9-5 with the win.The Devils opened the scoring when Nico Hischier scored on the power play at 1:26 of the first period to make it 1-0. Just over two minutes later, at 3:41, Ondrej Palat extended the lead to 2-0.Late in the first period, Denton Mateychuk pulled one back for the Columbus Blue Jackets to make it 2-1 heading into the second period. Sean Monahan tied the game 2-2 just 1:28 into the second frame.Columbus then took the lead with two quick goals from Charlie Coyle, followed shortly by another from Sean Monahan, putting the Blue Jackets ahead 4-2. Timo Meier cut the deficit to 4-3 for New Jersey at 11:51 of the third. At 13:31, Miles Wood scored the go-ahead goal for Columbus, giving the visitors a 5-3 win.The New Jersey Devils' (16-9-1) next matchup is against the Dallas Stars (17-5-4) on Wednesday.
