Sidney Crosby’s teammate Erik Karlsson shared his honest thoughts on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 4-3 comeback win on Monday.
The Penguins had a strong start to the game, taking a 3-0 lead by the end of the second period. However, the team completely lost its momentum, blew the three-goal advantage, and went on to lose the game.
Reflecting on the Leafs’ comeback win, Karlsson said post-game (via NHL.com):
“We played two good periods, and then we got a little flat in the third and obviously they kept coming, and they stepped up their game. We couldn’t find a way to maintain the level that we had for the first 40. I think we just started playing it probably a little bit too safe, and that’s usually a sign when you don't feel your best, and maybe we ran out of gas a little bit.”
Erik Karlsson, currently signed to an eight-year, $92 million contract, scored a goal in the defeat. He has accumulated 11 points through a goal and ten assists in 14 games this season.
Sidney Crosby's Penguins coach praised Ben Kindel
Ben Kindel had an outstanding outing against the Maple Leafs. He scored twice in the matchup, with his first coming at 17:56 of the first period to make it 2-0 for the Penguins.
He netted his second goal on the power play to put the Pens up 3-0 at 11:50 into the second period. After the game, coach Dan Muse praised the 18-year-old (via NHL.com):
“Just the sense, his ability to read space, the ability to attack space, to know where the next play is – those are the types of things that I think we've seen from him on a pretty consistent basis."
Sidney Crosby's Penguins currently sit second in the Metro Division with an 8-4-2 record. The Pens play the Washington Capitals next on Thursday.
