Earlier this week on Thanksgiving, Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin’s fiancee Craolina Matovac posted a heartfelt Instagram carousel reflecting on her recovery after undergoing a lifesaving heart transplant during the offseason.Matovac has kept a low profile throughout her rehabilitation but on Thursday she opened up about the magnitude of her journey writing that she is “endlessly thankful” after surviving what Dahlin previously described as an “unimaginable” medical emergency.“This year, I have so much to be grateful for. I will never take my strong and healthy body for granted again; I am truly amazed at what it can accomplish. I am endlessly thankful for my donor, healthcare professionals, and all the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly every day to save lives.”“I am also deeply grateful for my family and friends, as the most important things in life are the people who surround us.”She wrote about the unpredictability of life and how it should never be taken for granted.“It’s essential to never take life for granted. She required CPR on site before being rushed to a French hospital, where she was placed on life support and ultimately underwent an emergency heart transplant.“While Carolina is still working through her rehab to return to be with me in Buffalo, she has demonstrated an incredible determination, spirit, positivity, and resilience that I am in awe of,” Dahlin wrote in an official statement.“This has undoubtedly been the most challenging chapter of our lives, however it is something that we have learned so much from. We will continue to grow from these experiences and are so grateful for all the love and support we have received.”The 25-year-old defenseman also shared how he has leaned on the support of teammates while balancing preparations for his eighth NHL campaign at the time with the emotional weight of the summer’s events.
