Quinn Hughes spoke with some frustration after the Vancouver Canucks’ 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. The Canucks had trouble creating scoring chances and finished with 45 shots, but only two goals. Blackhawks goalie Spencer Knight faced a combined of 35 shots in the first two periods but didn't allow any goals.

After the game, Quinn Hughes was asked if he gave credit to Knight for the result.

"Not really," Hughes said, [0:42 onwards] "I mean, he made some good saves, but I wouldn't say he made any outlandish saves. I don't know what the shot count was, whether it hit 50 or not, but I mean, he played well, but yeah."

When asked if it came down to Canucks' execution, he added,

"Yeah. I don't know. I mean, I didn't see any like insane saves. Did you?"

Hughes' short answers showed frustration after Canucks inconsistent stretch so far this season, but he supported his team's effort.

Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen stopped 23 shots out of 27 in the game. He also kept the play balanced in the first two periods. However, in the third period, he allowed four goals, with the fifth goal scored into an empty net.

Meanwhile, Quinn Hughes has started the 2025-26 season with steady play for Vancouver. In 11 games, he has one goal and seven assists for eight points. His plus-minus rating is -2, showing the team's defensive struggles.

The Canucks Captain missed four games earlier this season with an injury, but continues to lead the team in minutes. He averages more than 26 minutes per game, showing how much the team relies on him.

Hughes remains one of the Canucks’ most important players. Vancouver has struggled to stay above .500, but continues to rely on Hughes’ calm presence.

Coach Adam Foote said via NHL,

"Little mishap on the first one they got, defensively we made a mistake... I don’t know if it was fatigue from the trip, coming back. We just overpressed."

Aatu Raty scored for Vancouver at 16:49, and Evander Kane added another at 18:00. But Bedard scored into an empty net with a minute left on the clock for Chicago’s fifth goal.

Quinn Hughes and the Canucks will look to recover with back-to-back home games this weekend.
