The New York Rangers continue to struggle this season after naming J.T. Miller their team captain. They hold a 10-11-2 record and sit last in their division, led by teams like Carolina, the NY Islanders, and the New Jersey Devils.

The team scores only 2.48 goals per game, and their defense keeps them competitive with 2.65 goals allowed. However, scoring droughts and several shutout losses have slowed any progress.

Colby Cohen shared a sharp criticism of J.T. Miller on Daily Faceoff. He called Miller’s reaction in the 2-1 loss against the Detroit Red Wings an “ugly” tantrum. Cohen compared it to a child not getting their way, and questioned Miller’s behavior as a well-paid captain.

"I don't see how, after the video I saw, this is like, full disgrace mode for me," Cohen said. "That's like, my daughter didn't get her way, and so she walked away and just like, threw a temper tantrum, only she doesn't make, what does he make eight and a half million dollars a year? and wear the C for an NHL team. I mean, that was a really, really ugly clip to see."

Cohen said he would not include Miller on Team USA. The 2026 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place in February 2026, in Italy.

"And no, I'm not putting him on Team USA, because there's other players that can come on and play in those checking roles," Cohen said. "And yeah, like, I think I take Vincent Trocheck because he's a guy they're talking about as a bubble player over J.T Miller. He's a checker. He plays with sandpaper."

Cohen sees Miller's Rangers teammate, Vincent Trocheck, as having a stronger checking game. So, he believes Trocheck fits the needed role for Team USA more clearly.

Cohen says J.T. Miller's trade does not look good

The Vancouver Canucks traded J.T. Miller in January after reports of issues inside the team. There was also tension between him and Elias Pettersson. The Rangers wanted more skill, size, and physical play, and Miller had played in New York from 2012 to 2018. This offseason, he was named the 29th captain in team history.

But, according to Cohen, Miller’s recent play has not helped his case.

"I wouldn't be taking him based on the way that he's playing at all," Cohen said. "I don't know. Man, that trade is really not looking good."

J.T. Miller is currently day-to-day with an upper-body injury. He has six goals and 12 points in 22 games. Meanwhile, the Rangers hope to improve their struggling attack.
