This was McDavid's 14th career hat trick. His last one came 1184 days back during a 6-5 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. He scored 153 points, including 64 goals, in 2022-23, winning the Rocket Richard Trophy and the Art Ross Trophy, the latter being his third consecutive win.

Since then, McDavid has taken up more playmaking duties, with 174 assists in the last two seasons, but scoring only 58 goals. His shooting percentage also dropped from 18.2% in 2022-23 to 12.2% the following season and increased slightly to 13.3% in 2024-25. Regardless, he was able to lead his team to consecutive Stanley Cup Finals.

Connor McDavid makes feelings known about Oilers' regaining potency to score

The Oilers haven't looked like the same team this season that won the Western Conference in the last two playoffs. But putting nine goals past a strong Kraken roster will definitely boost their confidence.

Connor McDavid opened up about the result during his media scrum on Thursday.

"Yeah, I feel like we haven't really had that all year," McDavid said. "So, feels good to get a couple as a group and hopefully guys are feeling good about themselves and we can build on it."

The Oilers improved to a 12-11-5 record as a result and are currently just outside the Western Conference wild card playoff spots.
