Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl reached the 1,000-point milestone of his NHL career Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena recording the historic point early in the first period against the Pittsburgh Penguins.The milestone came on the power play when Draisaitl picked up an assist on Zach Hyman’s goal that opened the scoring for Edmonton. Just 14 seconds later, he added another assist on a Connor McDavid power-play goal giving him point No. 1,001 almost immediately after crossing the threshold.Draisaitl’s wife Celeste Desjardins immediately shared a clip from her TV featuring the celebration after his 1,000th career NHL point and paired it with a personal message:“1,001 points. U R AMAZING! So incredibly proud of you, today and every day. There is no one like you, my love. I love you ❤️”Lauren Kyle, the wife of Oilers captain Connor McDavid, shared a story from inside the arena showing Draisaitl and McDavid together with their teammates on the scoreboard beneath a banner, adding:“Incredibly so proud of you guys 💙💛”A third story came from Emma Stecher, the wife of former Oiler Troy Stecher, who shared a graphic commemorating Draisaitl’s 1,000 career points writing:“an incredible accomplishment for the most deserving people 🧡💙”via Instagram /@celestedesjardinsDraisaitl recorded four assists in the game including another helper on Evan Bouchard’s power-play goal and added a fourth assist in the third period on Vasily Podkolzin’s goal, finishing the night with four assists and a multi-point performance that helped drive Edmonton’s 6-4 road win. Instead, he credited the milestone to the teammates he’s played with over the years.“Certainly that I don't get 999 more, I can tell you that for free,” Draisaitl said. “But, you know, again, there's so many great teammates that I've been around, so many guys that know how to use my strength and use me, and I'm just very proud to be able to accomplish that.”With the game, Leon Draisaitl became the first German-born player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points and one of the fastest players overall to do so.
