"I crumpled him": Canucks' Kiefer Sherwood revisits his iconic body checks

Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood, the NHL’s hits leader in the 2024-25 season, took fans behind the scenes of some of his most memorable body checks. Known for his punishing physical style, Sherwood set the single-season record with 462 hits in 2024-25, shattering the previous mark by 79.

In a video shared by Sportsnet on X this Friday, Kiefer Sherwood reacts to several of his biggest moments from last season. On his massive collision with Brian Dumoulin, he recalled,

"Oh, this one was good. I remember this. Boomelis taken down by Sherwood. I kinda crumpled him."

He also looked back on his hit against the St. Louis Blues’ Oskar Sundqvist, saying,

"I think it was a delayed offside, but I didn't, I didn't, uh, I didn't think that it was delayed, so that one was fun."

Sherwood's check on Andre Burakovsky was another favorite.

"Got him good there, popped his helmet off," Sherwood said. "I actually play with Burakovsky here, and he was trying to tell me he was, uh... Why, why am I taking his head off? He's trying to get ready for something after the season.

"So it was kind of funny. I was actually laughing. I was like, "All right, I gotta give it to you." But I told him, I was like, "I kept my... I made sure I didn't hit him in the head." His helmet just popped off."

Sherwood’s personal favorite might be his hit on Vince Dunn.

"I actually like the one in - at home against Seattle against Dunn," Sherwood said. "I kind of blew him up 'cause he was kind of a dangerous spot away from the glass. So that one looked really big, I think. And I always like the ones at home 'cause you kind of get the fans into it, and you kind of feel the energy afterwards."

Kiefer Sherwood's offensive spark in 2025-26 season

Kiefer Sherwood has been one of the few offensive leaders for a struggling Vancouver Canucks team. With 12 goals and 16 points in 28 games, he leads the lineup in goals and has provided reliable energy, forechecking, and secondary scoring.

So far, this season, he already has 119 hits as he continues to establish himself as one of the league’s most impactful forecheckers. His physical identity remains central to the Canucks’ energy as they work to overcome defensive struggles and regain momentum.

Kiefer Sherwood’s effort level and finishing ability have stood out during a season marked by inconsistency. Because of his strong play, affordable cap hit, and expiring contract situation, he has begun drawing interest in trade rumors as other teams look for scoring depth.
