Jordan Binnington was pulled at 10:24 in the first period during the St. Louis Blues' game against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. The Blues goaltender allowed two soft goals before head coach Jim Montgomery replaced him with backup goalie Joe Hofer, who was coming off a shutout on Saturday.

Binnington, who left the game with the Blues trailing 2-1, had some fiery words for his coach while passing the bench. He also chose to leave for the locker room rather than stay and watch the action.

Fans were quick to analyse the situation, claiming that Binnington was poised for an imminent trade to the Edmonton Oilers, who have been linked to the netminder since last season.

"He’s gonna be in Edmonton by the end of the week. Bookmark it," a fan wrote.

"Maybe it’s time. Thanks for 2019 Binner," a fan stated.

"Terrible look on Bennington. Just trade him, Holloway, Kyrie to Edmonton for Nurse," a fan floated a possible swap.

"I can't help but feel like our time with Binner is nearing its end very quickly," a fan opined.

"Maybe he should watch the replay of the 2 goals he let in," a fan added.

The Edmonton Oilers' goaltending situation has warranted an upgrade. Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard account for the worst save percentage (.865 SV%) and the third-worst goals against per game played (3.58) in the league.

Binnington, himself, hadn't had the best of starts to the season. After Monday's game, he has a 3.20 Goals Against Average and a .878 save percentage, lower than his career standards. However, he was unbeaten in regulation time over his last six games and had a high .935% in his last four heading into Monday.

Jim Montgomery reveals Jordan Binnington apologized for his outburst

After the game on Monday, Jim Montgomery denied there was any bad blood between him and his goaltender. Montgomery added that the 32-year-old goalie waited to apologize during the first intermission.

“You know, I love Jordan Binnington,” Montgomery told reporters. “He’s a competitor. He raises his games in the big moments all the time. I love him. He walked off the ice, he said, ‘I love you!’ I said, ‘I love you, too!’

“We’re both competitors, and at the end of the period, he waited for me, we apologized and we moved on. It’s over and done with.”

Joel Hofer made 19 saves out of 20 shots on goal for the Blues, but wasn't able to salvage the game as the Ducks won 4-1 on the night.
