Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis provided an update on his son after the deadly shooting incident at Brown University.

On Dec. 13, a gunman opened fire in a lecture hall at Brown University's Barus and Holley building in Providence, Rhode Island, during a final exam review. The attack killed two students and injured nine others.

Martin St. Louis has a 22-year-old son, Ryan, who is a senior and plays on the Brown men's hockey team. Ryan was on campus during the shooting and sheltered in place.

Following the Montreal Canadiens' 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, St. Louis addressed the tragedy at the start of his post-game press conference:

"He was sheltering during last night's (Canadiens) game. It's a tragedy. It hits home. I want to send my thoughts and prayers to everybody involved - the students, their families, that community," Martin St. Louis said. "Stuff like that shouldn't happen. He's safe, he's back home. It was a difficult time for everyone so my thoughts go out to Brown and the community."

Ryan was not among the victims and is safe at home with his family. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities continuingto search for the suspect after releasing a previously detained person of interest.

Martin St. Louis and co. secure a dominant win over Edmonton Oilers

On Sunday, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 at Centre Bell Arena. The Habs improved to 17-11-4, sliding into third in the Atlantic Division standings.

After a goalless first period, Ivan Demidov opened the scoring for the Canadiens on the power play to make it 1-0 at 2:28 of the second period. Joe Valeno made it 2-0 at 11:58 before heading into the third period.

Nick Suzuki increased the Habs' lead to 3-0 on the power play at 3:38. Zach Hyman, who was the lone scorer in the matchup, cut the deficit to 3-1 on the power play at 12:29. Alexandre Texier scored the winner for the hosts at 13:52.

Martin St. Louis and the Canadiens host the Philadelphia Flyers (16-9-6) at Centre Bell Arena next on Tuesday. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET.
