The incident occurred during the Oilers-Kraken game on Saturday afternoon. Marchment delivered a questionable hit on Edmonton defenseman Darnell Nurse. When Marchment refused to fight in retaliation, the Oilers players went after him.

The most notable attack was the egregious elbow by Leon Draisaitl during the second period. Draisaitl got the gate for the hit, unleashing a flurry of fan reaction.

Here’s a look at what fans had to say about Leon Draisaitl’s massive elbow to Mason Marchment:

“Punishment! Kill him!” another fan weighed in.

Meanwhile, other fans felt Leon Draisaitl’s elbow was justified. Let’s see what these fans had to say:

“It has nothing to do with Kraken Marchment but has everything to do with Dallas Marchment for injuring Hyman, just had to drop the glove once and move on,” a fan remarked.
“I’d be so mad if that elbow was the other way around. I’d never shut up,” this fan wrote on social media.

“Yeah, this is classic cupcake Marchment,” another fan posted on X.

It remains to be seen if supplemental discipline could be heading Draisaitl’s way. The league will likely review the play, with more information potentially coming on Sunday.

Leon Draisaitl and Oilers have history with Marchment

Saturday’s tilt was not the first time Draisaitl and the Oilers have run into Mason Marchment’s antics.

During last spring’s Western Conference Final, Mason Marchment laid a hit on Zach Hyman in Game 4 of the Oilers’ series with the Dallas Stars. Marchment, a member of the Stars at the time, injured Hyman during the first period of that game.

The incident led to Hyman sustaining a broken wrist. The injury required surgery, keeping Hyman out for the remainder of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs. Hyman returned to the Oilers’ lineup roughly one week ago.

So, there’s plenty of bad blood between the Oilers and Marchment. That bad blood reached a new level when Marchament level Darnell Nurse on Saturday. However, Marchment’s refusal to settle the score via fisticuffs prompted Leon Draisaitl to take justice into his own hands.

The pent-up frustration boiled over, with Marchment becoming the chief target for Edmonton players.

Draisaitl and the Oilers will next face Marchment and the Kraken on December 4. As such, the fireworks could pick up right where they left off.
