Earlier this week, former NHL forward Mike Rupp weighed in on the long-running discussion about Quinn Hughes’ future with the Vancouver Canucks. He delivered one of the strongest public predictions yet that the Canucks captain will eventually join his brothers Jack and Luke with the New Jersey Devils.Speaking on the Tri-State Hockey Podcast, Rupp did not mince words about what he believes is coming.“I would bet the farm. These three brothers are on the same team; like, they will play on the same team in the NHL, I think, sooner than later,” Rupp said.“And so does that mean it's New Jersey? Quite possibly there'd be a really wild situation if it was somewhere else. I don't think that Quinn is going to sign a short-term deal in Vancouver. Vancouver needs to trade Quinn Hughes.”He added that the league should “stop pretending he’s in Vancouver long-term” arguing the Canucks should move the star defenceman while they can command an “absolute haul.”“I think the bigger thing is that we stop pretending that he's in Vancouver; he's not going to be in Vancouver,” he noted. The 26-year-old is currently in year five of his six-year US$47.1 million contract signed in 2021, a deal that runs through the 2026-27 season. With the NHL’s updated CBA altering extension lengths and creating a narrow window for eight-year deals, speculation around his next contract has only intensified. On the ice, through the early portion of the 2025-26 season, Quinn Hughes has recorded 20 points (1 goal, 19 assists) while once again driving possession and logging heavy minutes. He is also on the verge of becoming the highest-scoring defenceman in franchise history.Quinn Hughes' brother opines on his possible move to NJEarlier last month, New Jersey Devils rookie Luke Hughes addressed the long-running question surrounding the Hughes brothers potentially uniting on the same NHL roster. When asked specifically about his oldest brother Quinn Hughes, Luke answered carefully noting that openly wishing for Quinn to join him and Jack in New Jersey could be interpreted as tampering.“Of course … I think the three of us would all love to play together someday, but whether it’ll happen or not, who knows?” Luke said.“I know Quinn loves Vancouver and he’s the captain there. We love being here. You never know, so never say never.” [H/T Reuters]All three Hughes brothers were lottery selections with Jack Hughes going first overall to New Jersey in 2019, while Quinn was drafted seventh overall by Vancouver in 2018 and Luke followed as the Devils’ fourth-overall pick in 2021.
