On Friday, the "2 Mutts Hockey" podcast reported that Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry is being traded to the Edmonton Oilers, with the Penguins retaining 50% of his salary. The Oilers are in desperate need of a goaltender due to Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard’s inconsistent performances this season. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Oilers have shown interest in Jarry, but he does not believe that he will come to Edmonton. Friedman explained that due to the Oilers’ own injuries and cap situation, they would have to make roster moves, which he believes is not possible at the moment. Speaking on Sportsnet, he said:"There's legitimate Edmonton interest in Jarry, but I think it is extremely complicated and might not be possible, mainly because Pittsburgh has not indicated it will not retain. Now, for those of you who are Oilers fans, what that means is that it might not be possible because Edmonton would have to do some roster surgery to get it done."Friedman added:"And right now, because of their own injury and cap situation, they're really stuck. So like I said, I believe there's interest in Jarry. I just don't know if it's going to be possible. And one of the reasons I don't believe it's possible because I don't think it's a Skinner for Jarry situation. I believe the Oilers what they would like to do if they ever could do this would be to pair Skinner with Jarry."Tristan Jarry is currently signed to a five-year, $26.875 million contract. The 30-year-old has posted a 9-2-0 record, going 2.61 GAA and posting a.910 save percentage.Analyst clears the air on Tristan Jarry's Oilers trade rumorsOn Saturday, analyst Ryan Rishaug addressed the rumors surrounding a potential Tristan Jarry trade to the Edmonton Oilers.
