Notably, this will be the second time the Stars and Texas host an outdoor NHL game. However, the opponent to face the Dallas Stars in the Stadium Series is yet to be announced.

In his latest "32 Thoughts" column, Friedman noted that while Colorado initially seemed the obvious choice, Edmonton also makes strong sense, especially with Connor McDavid playing at JerryWorld as a major draw.

"The only thing that annoys me about Dallas’s outdoor game is that it’s on a Saturday, so I won’t be able to go. Initially, I thought Colorado was the obvious opponent, but doesn’t Edmonton make a lot of sense, too? Wouldn’t Connor McDavid at JerryWorld be an obvious sell? "

"Whatever the case, the calendar is filling in. All-Star Game on Long Island, outdoor game in Dallas and a Heritage Classic brewing in Winnipeg. Let’s see what else arrives," Friedman wrote.

The Dallas Stars last played an outdoor game in the 2020 Winter Classic, defeating the Nashville Predators 4-2 at the Cotton Bowl. The matchup became infamous for Corey Perry’s early ejection in the first period, after elbowing Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis in the head.

Perry’s lengthy solo trek across the football field to the locker room, in full view of a sold-out crowd of 85,630, earned instant notoriety as the “walk of shame.”

"I think Leon and Connor were two of our better players, as expected, but we just need to get more out of everyone."

McDavid leads the NHL with 21 points (four goals and 17 assists) this season. He and the Oilers play the Colorado Avalanche next on Saturday.
