This week, Vancouver Canucks star Elias Pettersson’s wife Katelyn Byrd shared a candid account of a challenging experience she faced while renovating her Wyoming property.

In a vlog posted to her YouTube channel, Katelyn detailed how she was defrauded by a contractor over a two-year period.

“I hired a contractor to help me remodel this place, and he unfortunately took a lot of my money in small doses,” Katelyn revealed.

She explained that despite repeated payments and promises of completion, the contractor failed to finish the project and used the funds for personal purchases including vehicles and property in another state.

Katelyn described the ordeal as eye-opening and spoke about systemic issues in the building industry.

“The system that builders use is so corrupt here. It’s really scary how easy it is for people to take your money and do a horrible job or destroy your house, and there’s no protection.”

The influencer and entrepreneur said that she splits her time between the United States, Canada, and Sweden, and shared her appreciation for Wyoming’s small-town atmosphere. Despite the setback, Katelyn also mentioned that she is optimistic about completing her ranch renovation and hopes her story can be a cautionary tale for others facing similar situations.

“If it can help anyone out who’s a new home builder, or if you’re thinking of remodeling a house that you just bought, I would love to give my advice and my story so I can protect other people in the future,” she said.

Her vlog also included some practical advice for new homeowners and individuals planning renovations where she mentioned the importance of caution when working with contractors.
